From authentic food, to beads and cold beer, it's nearly as if people at Rick's 718 are in New Orleans. If you don't include beads in your celebration, did you even have a Mardi Gras party?

For Dining Services General Manager Eddie Aguilar, the idea for the very first Mardi Gras night stemmed from a long tradition of hosting themed dinners. Parade-goers started draping themselves with beads colored purple for justice, gold for power and green for faith. "My clarinet and I have always been celebrating here in 'the Nawth, '" Shultz said.

Originally Mardi Gras marked the last day of the festivities and was considered the ultimate day of celebration.

Also known as Carnival, it's celebrated in New Orleans in a huge way, a most known, hence Havre de Grace with her Bourbon Street, just like New Orleans in Louisiana, throws a parade and celebration along that route.

The Zulu community has been a viable force behind the traditions of Mardi Gras.

Paddy Whacks is offering a full buffet and an open bar with domestic beers and mixed drinks to celebrate Fat Tuesday, if what you're looking for is an indulgent Mardi Gras experience. The annual concert celebration is made possible through the generous support of the Hayner Public Library District and LCCC. "I even know of a few events happening in [New York City] to celebrate, but I'm just too busy to go".

Decorations are key when throwing a killer Mardi Gras party.

Rex is New Orleans' oldest parading Carnival group. There are various bars, jazz lounge and dance clubs that give you a taste of the Big Easy right here in the Big Apple. "I'm enjoying learning about Mardi Gras", said Angela Carter, who had learned of the event the week before, at a meeting of the National Association of University Women.
