Sony Teases Next Xperia Phone It's Going To Unveil At MWC 2018

The site is putting the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact release dates as "sometime in March". That's no "Infinity Display" Sony has in the pipeline, but without a doubt, the 5.7-inch XZ2 will offer the Xperia family's largest screen-to-body ratio yet. After sticking with their extremely exhausted old design language for so long (and suffering because of it) Sony have finally entered the full-screen world with the Xperia XZ2 smartphones. However, one smartphone manufacturer that stuck with its old, now boring design was Japan-based Sony. Some say the teaser is hinting at a curved screen smartphone while others say it has something to do with an audio feature. Both will have full HD LCD displays and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. If we go by the images, not only has Sony redesigned the overall appearance of the smartphones which now sport a sleek and rounded display look, but the company has also repositioned its rear camera, LED flash, and fingerprint sensor for better ergonomics.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 features 3D glass on both the front and back with aluminium frames which makes it glossy, whereas, the XZ2 Compact comes with a "non-scratch" polycarbonate finish at the back.

Both smartphones will be powered by the all new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and house stereo front-facing speakers with the Xperia XZ2 (but not the Compact) also syncing the haptic feedback vibrations to the sound of the device. Around back there is a 19MP camera with a f/1.8 aperture and 4K HDR video recording.

This is according to tweets sent out by Sony Mobile's South African division in which in the first tweet, they revealed that Sony will reveal three new Xperia models along with a "surprise".

As for battery, the Xperia XZ2 will pack a slightly higher 3,180mAh battery with support for Type-C and wireless charging, while its Compact cousin will include 2,870mAh battery with support for only wired charging. A report in Venture Beat elaborates on the features and specifications of Sony XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact.

Tune in on Sunday during Sony's MWC 2018 press conference to see the new phones unveiled live.

Samsung will own MWC 2018, but Sony has the event we're looking forward to the most.
