Chaos at Sydney Airport this morning has left hundreds stranded

Sydney Airport is advising passengers to check with their airline for up-to-date information about their flights.

"We're experiencing technical issues at T1 and T2 causing interruptions to passenger processing and delays", a Tweet from Sydney Airport said just after 6.00am.

T1 returned to normal, while T2 took a little longer to return to normal.

"Our teams are working to get everyone to their destinations as soon as possible", a spokesman told AAP.

The T3 Qantas Domestic terminal is apparently not affected.

It affected systems including the airport's CCTV, meaning passengers could not be screened for about two hours. We picked that up before we opened the terminal this morning.

'Virgin Australia is working to minimise any disruption to passengers caused by the earlier issues and to reaccommodate any affected passengers.

The technical glitch and subsequent delays come several months after flights were grounded at Sydney Airport's domestic terminal in September previous year, due to a technical fault with an air traffic control system, managed by Airservices Australia.

Outbound flights, but not inbound flights, were experiencing delays.

Long lines filled the worldwide terminal and one of two domestic terminals on Friday after an "underlying technology issue" was discovered before opening.
