USA special counsel probes Seychelles meeting with Russian

He set up the meeting between Prince and Kirill Dmitriev and is now cooperating with Mueller's investigation, per the Post.

A witness cooperating with Mueller has told investigators the meeting was set up in advance so that a representative of the Trump transition could meet with an emissary from Moscow to discuss future relations between the countries, according to the people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

Schiff, Calif., said he wants the panel to also speak with George Nader, a Lebanese American businessman who helped organize the meeting in the Seychelles, as his reported version of events "is obviously at odds with" what Prince told the panel in November.

Trump continues to deny ties to the Kremlin, suggesting that allegations of collisions are a "hoax" and "witch hunt" perpetuated by Democrats and others who want to bring the president down.

If that name rings a bell, it's because the New York Times just reported on Nader, and on how Mueller is interested in whether the UAE-yes, the nation Prince was meeting with on business-tried to "buy political influence" with the incoming Trump administration.

And he's told lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee that he didn't plan to meet Dmitriev in the Seychelles - and that he went there as a private businessman and not as an emissary of the Trump transition team, the Post reported.

The Post said Nader has been cooperating with Mueller and has met numerous times with investigators since he was stopped and questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after he arrived at Washington's Dulles International Airport in January.

Prince, whose sister Betsy DeVos is Trump's education secretary, said a year ago he and Kirill Dmitriev, chief executive of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, or RDIF, met for about half an hour in a bar in the Indian Ocean country at the suggestion of officials from the United Arab Emirates. Prince is the founder of the mercenary firm Blackwater (famous for massacring unarmed civilians in Baghdad), a supporter of a privatized and for-profit military, and brother of Trump's Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos. Those outlets also reported Nader attended that Seychelles meeting previous year. However, according to officials familiar with the meeting, he presented himself as an unofficial envoy for Trump to high-ranking Emiratis involved in setting up his meeting with the Russian official.
