PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) PC roadmap outlined for 2018

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) PC roadmap outlined for 2018

One of these big pieces of content is a new island map, which players will be able to try on PUBG's new Experimental Test Server next month. A new eight-kilometer by eight-kilometer map has also been confirmed, though further details weren't provided. The desert setting provided quite the departure from the grassy setting of the original map and it looks like the next map is to do the same once again, introducing a jungle environment in a much smaller arena. We are going to need your feedback on all the new features, especially the new penetration system, so please join our test servers later this week. At half the size of the other maps, the PUBG 4x4 map will force players closer together, meaning more gunfights and less downtime (i.e. less running about and doing nothing!).

Games on those maps often start bloody, with players dropping into hotly contested zones for some "Team Deathmatch" style action, and then when there are 30 to 50-odd players left after just a few minutes, the game drastically slows down, as the remaining ones slowly make their way to the safe zones without much risk of encountering others.

Little is known about the new PUBG Adriatic map.

New animations are going to be introduced to both third-person and first-person game modes, including but not limited to entering vehicles and clambering over walls.

Outside of direct gameplay changes, PUBG still hard at work. You'll see new achievements, in-game friend lists and suqad voice chat in the main menu, plus some extra character customization features like parachute and weapon skins.

Finally, game stability is being targeted as well as anti-cheat methods and server security. Improving spectator tools is seen as an important part of making the game esports ready and also improving the MMR and ranking system. Additional player customisation options and a test server for upcoming patch releases are also in the offing.

Playing a round of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is already an intense, pulse-racing experience - and it's about to get worse. Certain topics commonly discussed by the community may have been absent from the roadmap, like balance and crates, but those were likely beyond the scope of the roadmap.

Nevertheless, PUBG players now have a document with which to hold PUBG Corp. accountable and PUBG Corp. has made public their plans to keep fans happy.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC and Xbox One.
