Bucs already showing interest in Richard Sherman

His first stop is Santa Clara, Calif., and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Saturday that it could very well be his only visit with the expectation the 49ers are ready to write a check if Sherman's surgically repaired Achilles passes inspection.

Sherman's meeting with 49ers brass on the same day as his official release is worth noting.

The Seattle Seahawks could be seeing more of Richard Sherman than they would prefer during the 2018 season.

It also might convince defensive end Julius Peppers, who's weighing his future, to decide to play another season.

As reported by Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, Kyle Shanahan was seen having dinner in Los Gatos with the 29-year-old cornerback and his wife shortly after his release from the Seattle Seahawks on Friday afternoon.

Sherman is also expected to undergo a physical and meet with team doctors to talk about the Achilles tendon he tore past year, NFL Network reported. Condotta says that the team was interested in trying to get Sherman to agree to a pay cut but that he "balked" at such a proposal.

If healthy, Sherman, a four-time Pro Bowl selection who excels in physical man-to-man coverage, would be an ideal fit for the 49ers' 4-3 defense.

Shaquill Griffin will return as the starter at right cornerback and the team is expected to tender restricted free agent Justin Coleman to return as the nickel corner. Also pursuing Sherman are the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions.

New England enters the weekend with approximately $23 million in cap space, which should enable the team to re-sign Nate Solder and make a run at another prominent player.
