Ousted Trump aide McEntee is under investigation for 'serious financial crimes'

While it's unclear why McEntee was sacked, the Journal reported that there may have been something in McEntee's background check.

Nauert, 48, of Locust Valley, a former Fox News host on "Fox and Friends", was promoted Tuesday after Steve Goldstein, the former undersecretary of State for public diplomacy, was sacked for breaking from the official White House position on the ousting of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. "We need the help of proven leaders such as Katrina and John to promote the President's growing portfolio of achievements across the country". The official, who requested anonymity to discuss personnel issues, said McEntee had been expected to travel with Trump - as he always does - when the President departed for a trip to California on Tuesday.

The Wall Street Journal, which was the first to break the news of McEntee's ouster, reported that he was removed because of an "unspecified security issue", citing an unidentified White House official.

At the very least, it appears Mr McEntee did not have a permanent security clearance and, with the ongoing criminal investigation, was unlikely to every be granted one.

McEntee was escorted off the White House premises and was not given time to get his things, leading him to leave the grounds without his coat, according to the Journal.

But inside the West Wing, McEntee was a common presence, serving as Trump's body man.

If there was any issue with McEntee inside the White House, Trump's campaign hasn't acknowledged it. White House Communications Director Hope Hicks resigned last month.

Also Tuesday, the Trump campaign announced that Katrina Pierson, who served as the campaign's 2016 national spokeswoman, will rejoin the effort as a senior adviser.
