Patient's Leg Used As Pillow: Human Rights Body Notice To UP Government

"The incident demands not only fair investigation and action against the guilty public servants but also issuance of necessary directions and guidelines to all hospitals regarding strict compliance of standard norms for the disposal of bio-medical waste and amputated organs so that such incidents do not recur in future", it said.

Horrifying footage shows Ghanshyam, 28, sleeping on a hospital bench after being rushed to the emergency ward of Maharani Laxmibai Jhansi Medical College in Uttar Pradesh.

National Human Rights Commission on Monday issued a notice to state government over the Jhansi episode in which severed leg of a youth was used as a pillow at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College.

According to an NDTV report, the authorities have begun an investigation into the case and the two doctors have been suspended.

Ghanshyam's mother and brother-in-law brought him to hospital after the bus he was in overturned while the driver tried trying to avoid hitting a tractor on Saturday.

Responding to the incident, the principal of the medical college said the patient was given "immediate" medical attention and one of his relatives placed the leg under his head, adding that "the doctor looked for something to raise his head".

Four members of staff at an Indian hospital were suspended after images emerged showing a patient being propped up by his own amputated leg.

"When we reached the hospital, we saw his foot being used as a headrest", Janaki Prasad said.

Relatives of Ghanshyam Singh have alleged that doctors were the ones to place the foot under his head as a pillow. The patient's attendant used the leg for the same. In another incident reported last month, a quack was arrested for using a common needle on a syringe and infecting 46 people with HIV.
