Here Are the DC-Area Finalists for the 2018 James Beard Awards

Winners will be revealed on May 7; media winners will be announced April 27.

Located at 1424 Westheimer Road, Anvil is a finalist in the Outstanding Bar Program category.


Imbibe named Heugel and Alba Heurta bartenders of the year in 2013. Link has been nominated for this award four times in the past. She was also a nominee in 2017.

In the Restaurant and Chef Awards, three Texas chefs and one cocktail program were left standing after the first round of voting.


For the fifth year, JoAnn Clevenger of Upperline Restaurant is up for Outstanding Restaurateur, an award the James Beard Foundations gives to "a working restaurateur who sets high national standards in restaurant operations and entrepreneurship". Given out yearly, they ignite the culinary world, have the power to raise profiles and prices, and let the media know which chefs are on the rise. Pondicheri chef-owner Anita Jaisinghani had also been named a semifinalist.

As a 2018 finalist, McHugh joins other acclaimed chefs in the Southwest for the top prize, including Michael Fojtasek, Olamaie, Austin; Bryce Gilmore, Barley Swine, Austin; Martín Rios, Restaurant Martín, Santa Fe; and Alex Seidel, Mercantile Dining & Provision, Denver. San Francisco's Dominique Crenn is nominated for best chef in California, Nevada and Hawaii region, while The Charter Oak in St. Helena was nominated for best new restaurant in America.
