Mahmood said that Pakistan desired peaceful relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect.

Pakistan High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood on Friday said his country wanted to sort out "as soon as possible" the issue of alleged harassment of diplomats in the two countries.

On the other hand, Indian diplomats and their families in Pakistan had been told that they should not leave the diplomatic enclave in Islamabad, unless they don't have a very important reason, the Indian Express had reported. "The relations, however evolved on a different trajectory", said Mr. Mahmood recollecting that Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in his January 26 message to India had expressed the hope that the future would be different from the hard past.

Talking about Indian violations on the Line of Control, Working Boundary, its designs to amass arms and the gross human rights violations in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK), the president said with these peace subversive tactics and irresponsible behaviour, Pakistan's neighbor had put the regional peace at stake.

Calling upon for an immediate and peaceful resolution of the struggle of Kashmiri people, Hussain said, "The only solution to the dispute of Kashmir is to provide the right of self-determination to Kashmiris, and Pakistan will continue to play its role in this regard". "Peace, security, stability and prosperity in south Asia could only be promoted on the principle of peaceful co-existence".

The Indian diplomats were seen wearing caps inscribed as "23 March, Pakistan Day" and watching the military parade. He said that Pakistan was ready to extend a hand of co-operation to regional countries, but "taking it as a weakness will be a unsafe mistake".

At the Pakistani High Commission, various cultural programmes were organised to mark the Pakistan Day.

President Mamnoon Hussain said on Friday Pakistan's desire for peace in the region should not be construed as its weakness and reminded India to peacefully resolve the long standing issue of Kashmir.
