Ant's absence acknowledged as Dec praised for first solo Saturday Night Takeaway

Last week's show was cancelled following Ant's arrest but this week's episode and the finale episode next week (April 7) will be aired.

He made several veiled references to the absence of Ant, at one point saying following the news had been "unavoidable" in recent weeks, but did not explicitly mention why Ant was missing.

The presenter will be without Ant McPartlin for the penultimate episode in the series although Scarlett Moffatt and Stephen Mulhern will be on hand in their regular support roles.

Taking to Twitter, Dec wrote: 'Thanks for all your lovely messages tonight, they are VERY much appreciated, I'm glad you enjoyed the show.

He also made light of the situation later in the show, commenting that he would have to take over the "End Of The Show Show" preparations himself, "like everything else this week".

"We have lots to cram in and I've got twice the amount of work to do".

After earning heaps of praise from fans following the show, Dec took to Twitter to thank fans for their support, while revealing he didn't get much sleep on Friday night.

Dermot O'Leary, Piers Morgan, and Susanna Reid were among those lauding the Geordie presenter, who was without his usual sidekick Ant McPartlin. "But Dec is professional and is determined to do a good job".

"@SamdySonxxxxx posted: "@antanddec @itvtakeaway Dec you did yourself & Ant proud, it was a fabulous but emotional show, keep smiling. looking forward to next week".

'Hello and a very warm welcome to all Virgin Holiday customers heading to - Orlando!' she tells passengers as confetti explodes around her, adding: 'OK, I know that yous are all excited but just hold on a little bit, please'.

The unexpected change was forced to have occurred after Ant was charged with drink-driving, following a auto crash in south-west London.
