Pirates day game postponed due to snow at Wrigley

Pirates day game postponed due to snow at Wrigley

The Chicago Cubs will be shooting for back to back victories after downing Milwaukee 5-2 on Saturday.

The Cubs would tally four times in the final frame, hanging a loss on Jacob Barnes.

After Kris Bryant was intentionally walked, manager Joe Maddon sent starting pitcher Jon Lester to the plate to hit for reliever Pedro Strop (2-0).

A new year and a new and improved Ben Zobrist.

"Half of the crowd, was here, more than half", said Cubs catcher Willson Contreras of the majority of the fans cheering for his team over the Brewers the past four days at Miller Park. He was hurt by errors by shortstop Orlando Arcia and third baseman Travis Shaw.

The first signs weren't good, and things got worse from there Monday at Wrigley Field.

The Brewers had just taken the lead on a Lorenzo Cain sacrifice fly in the 8th. The Cubs closed out a 5-4 trip with a 3-0 win at Milwaukee on Sunday. Yu Darvish also bounced back from a rocky debut with the Cubs, striking out nine over six crisp innings.

"It's probably one of the worst games to go out there and not have your stuff and kind of give it up", said Davies, the Brewers' leader a year ago in victories (17), starts (33) and innings (191 1/3). Barnes then walked Jason Heyward and Javier Baez followed with a sharp bouncer to Shaw, who booted the ball to load the bases. The team has Tuesday off, which would give Rizzo an additional day to rest before potentially returning Wednesday.

Manager Craig Counsell said Yelich reported soreness after hitting over the weekend. As of Sunday, he was considered doubtful for Monday's series opener against the Pirates.

"Just thinking about Wrigley Field, makes me feel way better than going away", said Contreras - and finally he along with his teammates will see the wait come to an end. Hoover got the last out of the ninth.

DIAMONDBACKS 4, CARDINALS 1 - David Peralta hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer off Dominic Leone in the eighth, A.J. Pollock went deep later in the inning and Arizona Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals in a game marred by a benches-clearing incident in the second inning.
