Knicks' options after firing Jeff Hornacek

New York Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek reacts in the fourth quarter of an NBA basketball game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Oklahoma City in October.

Following his return to NY after a 110-98 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night, James Dolan and the Knicks organization informed the former Utah Jazz shooting guard that he will not be returning for the a year ago that was on his contract according to a report by ESPN.

Associate head coach Kurt Rambis also was sacked.

Stackhouse has been the head coach of the Toronto Raptors' G-League affiliate, Raptors 905, since last season and led them to a league title and was named Coach of the Year.

Wright has some NY connections as well as he got his head coaching start at Hofstra University on Long Island, leading the mid-major program to a pair of America East titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in seven years.

Hornacek was sacked Wednesday night after the Knicks concluded their season with a win over Cleveland.

Knicks' brass. notably president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry. informed Hornacek of their decision late Wednesday night after the team returned from its season finale at Cleveland. He had one year remaining on his contract.

Hornacek was hired by then-team president Phil Jackson and then-GM Mills prior to the 2016-17 season. "It's hard to do anything because all you're thinking about is not to mess up".

Vogel was 25-57 in 2017-18 and 54-110 in 2 seasons with the team.

Coaches say a lot of things that seem like denials, especially college coaches, and Wright didn't technically mention the Knicks by name.

NY hasn't reached the playoffs in five seasons and has one playoff series win in the past 18 years.

"They made the best of a tough situation by playing with great effort, positive energy, enthusiasm, all throughout a hard season", Vogel said.

Meanwhile, Jackson may have a bit of an advantage over his potential competition thanks to his pedigree as a major contributor during one of the most iconic eras in Knicks franchise history.
