Child's Body Found Along NorCal River In Search For Missing Family

"It was pure acceleration from the last brake application until it hit the bottom of the cliff", Greg Baarts, the acting assistant chief of the California Highway Patrol's northern division, said at the time. Toxicology results on a third child whose body was recovered from the crash area are still pending.

She says the six kids were regularly punished for common childlike and adolescent behavior, such as laughing too loudly.

Authorities also recovered debris and personal items confirm that a vehicle seen plunging into a storm-swollen Northern California river last week belonged to a family that went missing.

Argyropoulos says the family's story has spurred her to start a petition calling for a national child abuse registry.

Bruce Carpenter told reporters that toxicology tests showed that "the preliminary blood-alcohol content was a.102" for the driver, a reading that's about 25 percent high than the state's legal drunk driving definition of.08.

The remains of a girl believed to be among them was found washed up on the banks of an adjacent creek days later, but California Highway Patrol Sergeant Robert Powers said she had not yet been positively identified.

Below is the famous photo of Devonte Hart.

Police have said a search of the family's home in Woodland, Washington, turned up no suicide note.

The 31-metre drop killed the women, both 39, and their children Markis Hart, 19; Jeremiah Hart, 14; and Abigail Hart, 14. They later left the state and never registered in local school districts in OR and Washington OR notified authorities they planned to home-school the children. The authorities were hunting for one additional few children: Hannah Devonte, 15; along with Sierra.

The Thottapillys were reported missing by other family members on April 8.

After Sarah Hart pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault, she and Jen pulled their children from schools in Minnesota, in favor of homeschooling.

"We believe that the Hart incident was in fact intentional", he said.

That's the same area where a family of four that vanished during a road trip from Portland, Ore., to their home in Santa Clarita, Calif., is last known to have been, the San Jose Police Department told the Associated Press.
