Wet weather returns late Sunday

Increasing clouds through Saturday morning before showers and storms arrive - likely during the early afternoon and lasting overnight through a good part of Sunday.

Along with the chance for heavy precipitation, we'll see powerful winds as well this weekend with northeast winds gusting to 40 miles per hour on Saturday and up to 35 miles per hour out of the north on Sunday. Daytime highs will be in the lower 80's with overnight lows will be in the 60's.

A gusty breeze throughout the region early today combined with sunshine to make for another warm day.

Sunday in the Omaha area will bring a slight chance of freezing rain in the morning. Cool temperatures in the beginning of the week will give way to a warming trend midweek through the end of the work week.

Winds will ease back a bit, but the big melt will continue into the afternoon as we once again rise up to a daytime high in mid-positive single digits.

Sunday: Light freezing rain mixed with snow in the morning, then mixed with rain in the afternoon.

A strong storm system will be moving through the Ohio River Valley over the weekend. Cold and damp weather is expected throughout the day, with the temperatures reaching a high of only about 45, DiSpigna said.

Through 8 a.m. Saturday, snow totals of 3 to 4 inches were observed in the Eau Claire area.

After all this cold weather, Saturday will feel like a summer day.
