Tral gunfight: Two local militants laid to rest

Three Jaish-e-Muhamm-ad militants, an Army jawan and a policeman were killed in a firefight that took place in woods outside the Tral town of Jammu and Kashmir's southern Pulwama district on Tuesday. "A joint team of the Army 42nd RR, CRPF and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir police intercepted the terrorists on the upper side of the Goiytengo forests".

In the initial exchange of fire, one soldier and a policeman sustained injuries. Sepoy Ajay Kumar, 42 Rashtriya Rifles, succumbed to his injuries at Army's 92 Base Hospital in Badami Bagh Cantonment area here.

SP Vaid, director general of state police, said on Twitter the encounter continues and wished his colleagues "good luck".

The encounter site is hemmed by dense forests, and local and foreign militants use the area for hiding.

They said a militant has also been killed in the gunfight, which was going on when reports last poured in.

A cordon and search operation is on in the area, he added.

A soldier, a counterinsurgency police official and a rebel were killed in a gunfight on Tuesday in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said, triggering anti-India protests and clashes.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has paid tributes to the two jawans of Army and Police who were killed during an operation at Tral today.
