North Korea summit likely to be held in Singapore: Yonhap

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will speak on a new hotline once the date for the Kim-Donald Trump summit is set, the Blue House said Monday. The warm relationship between the two leaders can be best explained by the North Korean leader's remark that the North and South Korean people are "one people" and that they shall never go into war again.

Sources have speculated that Trump wants his talks with Kim to look as dramatic as that of the Moon-Kim meeting, according to The Korea Times.

"We'll be announcing it soon", he told reporters as he left the White House for a trip to Texas, without elaborating.

Bolton met his South Korean counterpart Chung Eui-yong in Washington late last week to discuss plans for both locations, according to local media reports.

Aside from criticizing the Trump administration for linking the results of the April 27 inter-Korean summit to external pressure applied against the DPRK, the Uriminzokkiri article also lashed out at the administration for ruling out the possibility of easing sanctions in the short term.

Observers have said that holding the summit in Panmunjom would run the risk of shifting the focus from the more immediate US concern of denuclearization to securing a peace deal for the Korean Peninsula.

There has been much speculation over the location of historic summit.

While substantially more bellicose, the Urimininzokkiri op-ed was not the only state-media article published recently which criticized the notion that the US maximum pressure campaign has led to North Korea's recent diplomatic overtures, with multiple outlets publishing content on the subject over the weekend.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, whose ratings at home have nosedived in recent times, will also hold bilateral talks with the Chinese and South Korean leaderships on the sidelines of the summit, it was reported by The Straits Times. "The fact that it was also the backdrop for the inter-Korean summit last month is perhaps the main factor counting against it".

"This act can not be construed otherwise than a risky attempt to ruin the hard-won atmosphere of dialogue and bring the situation back to square one", he said. As I said yesterday, stay tuned. "I think you're going to be seeing very, very good things".

"This third summit between the two leaders affirms the enduring strength of the United States-Republic of Korea alliance and the deep friendship between our two countries", the White House said in a statement.

The three men - Kim Hak-Song, also known as Jin Xue Song; Tony Kim, also known as Kim Sang-Duk; and Kim Dong-Chul - were seized between 2015 and 2017 and accused of a variety of anti-state offenses.
