Trump might sideline Giuliani from his media blitz

As for Trump's legal team, we may just need to be patient. According to Meyers, Giuliani said this was because, "Everybody's reacting to us now". So Giuliani changed his story, or embellished it, by asserting that Trump didn't know about the payment at the time it was made - days before the 2016 election - but found out about it later. Cohen had previously said Trump did not reimburse him, and Trump had denied knowing about the payment.

"He was mayor of NY at one time and he is a lawyer now, and spokesperson for Donald Trump". The two stayed in contact during Trump's chaotic first year in office. Instead, it seemed to be expanding.

After his interview with Hannity, Giuliani said his revelation about the reimbursement was made with Trump's approval.

Giuliani, however, has been insistent that he and the President are synced.

"That's not how you describe a high-priced lawyer", Trevor Noah said on Monday's Daily Show. Giuliani has given the rest of the legal team pause, two people familiar with the matter say.

The response in the West Wing to Giuliani's arrival has been overwhelmingly negative.

Seth Meyers was surprised that Rudy Giuliani has said he feels pretty good about his media appearances over the weekend.

"They lie constantly", Meyers said.

He also managed to voice a confident-sounding, if wholly fictitious, rationale for Trump to stonewall special counsel Robert Mueller. She later fielded several questions to the "outside special counsel". "Open and shut case", Kosta said.

"I think their strategy right now is to put somebody out there who's even nuttier than Trump, to make him look normal by comparison, and it's working", Kimmel marveled. "It's really the President taking over". "No one knows what's going on, which means reasonable doubt".

"You can plan and plan and plan your short-term and long-term communications strategies, but when you are faced with the reality of this President's mode of operating you might as well just throw the plans out the window", the source added. "We know the president didn't pay Cohen to pay Daniels, except he did, but from a general legal fund, which didn't exist, unless it does".

If they can come to an agreement on the terms of an interview, Giuliani says he would like to wait until after the North Korea summit to prepare Mr. Trump. The next day, Trump tweeted almost a dozen times. "Speaking of natural disasters, Rudy Giuliani", he said.

One official attributed Giuliani's free-wheeling comments to a misunderstanding of his role - which is no longer as a "principal", but as a surrogate for Trump.

As for Giuliani, the president has not yet signaled to him to stop appearing on television but told a confidant recently that perhaps Giuliani should "be benched" - at least temporarily - if he can't improve his performance. But he told Fox News that Cohen was "doing no work for the president" at that time.
