Google Assistant to get six new voices

This update is being done so that people don't get bored of the monotonous robotic voice that the Assistant already has. These voices also include the likes of legendary singer, John Legend. Up until now, creating a new voice took hundreds of hours in a recording studio. For starters, these new voices are synthesized from WaveNet.

Yesterday, Google announced six new voices for its Assistant. "And the fact that we end up with female voices, or females portrayed in these various types of service roles, actually does reinforce the feminization of a certain labor force of servitude [like being a personal assistant or working a call center] that is often seen as less skilled, less valuable and that can be paid less".

"Well", Legend replied online, "the Google Assistant doesn't do everything".

Pretty PleaseAssistant features for families-powered by Family Link-provides free family-friendly games, activities, and stories from content partners like Disney. "It's so complicated. And I think a lot of designers are looking for what is the "right answer" [as in, whose is the "right" voice for these virtual assistants] and it's raising a lot of questions". For those who are excited for it, then you'll be pleased to learn that the new voices are live. Moreover, for that, you don't need to speak the whole order out-loud. Starting May 8th you can completely customize your own Routines as you see fit.

In closing, the Google Assistant and Google Home are getting support for a lot more smart home devices. Pichai also showcased a revamped Gmail and announced another new feature called "Smart Compose", which will help users write emails using machine learning technology. Those seven devices are: air conditioning units, air purifiers, coffee makers, fans, kettles, ovens, and sprinklers. However, all that changes now with the addition of an ability that enables users to create custom routines and also to schedule routines for a specific date or time, which would be rolling out a few months down the line.
