Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano Erupts, Destroys Homes

Gov. David Ige issued a new emergency declaration Wednesday to move 60,000 gallons of high flammable chemicals from Puna Geothermal Venture by the end of tomorrow.

"It would be "very, very hazardous" if a volcanic vent were to open under the facility where the fuel is stored, the governor said".

Officials expect to finish removing the gas by Thursday.

The plant is across the highway from where lava has been erupting in the Leilani Estates residential neighborhood.

Wednesday evening, NASA tweeted an image from a satellite that passed over the volcanic activity in Hawaii.

The ongoing surge in volcanic activity on Hawaii's Big Island soon could cause a massive explosion from a volcano's summit, scientists and Hawaii officials warned Wednesday. The USGS said a rockfall (not water interacting with lava) generated a short-lived explosion at Halemaumau Crater, sending an ash column high into the air.

The scientists added that during steam-driven explosions, ballistic blocks up to two meters across "could be thrown in all directions" to a distance of one kilometer or more. Geological Survey think if Kilauea's crater falls to groundwater level, strong steam-driven explosions will send "pebble-sized rocks" and ash flying for several miles.

Those gases include hydrogen fluoride and sulfur dioxide.

Lava from the bubbling volcano has now destroyed 35 buildings and forced more than 1,700 residents to evacuate.

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has erupted out of two new vents prompting authorities to call for an immediate evacuation of residents from a second neighbourhood on the Big Island.

Authorities had ordered almost 2,000 residents to leave the two communities in the mostly rural district of Puna on Hawaii's Big Island last Thursday.

While they wait for updates on their home and hope the lava's path doesn't cross onto their property, Rainen and her family are looking for a more suitable place to stay with their dogs.

Police have gone door-to-door to evacuate residents near two new vents emitting risky volcanic gases in Hawaii.

Talmadge Magno, director of Hawaii County Civil Defense, said earlier Wednesday that the pentane would be transported to Shipman Industrial Park for storage.

"Last I heard, the house was gone", Brock said. "The police came down here and made me".

The Kilauea Volcano erupted on Thursday last week, followed by a number of earthquakes of varying magnitudes, with the biggest being 6.9. People are continuing to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where Kilaueau is located, but the area has some restrictions.

Up to now, the eruption has destroyed 36 constructions because it started releasing lava from fissures that opened in a Huge Island neighborhood about 25 miles east of the summit crater.

Images taken from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) onboard NASA's Terra satellite picked up these new fissures, showing vegetation and old lava flows with hot spots that were detected by Aster's thermal infrared bands, indicating the newly formed fissures and new lava flow.
