Manchester City set new Premier League goals record

Toure was recalled for his first Premier League start of the season and regular captain Vincent Kompany gave up the armband for the night.

"Now it's one more game (away against Southampton on Sunday), we're going to try for 100 points and finish this nearly ideal season in the Premier League". "All through the game, we will be focused on winning for Yaya".

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised the "outstanding" Leroy Sane, admitting he was anxious about the attacker after the title party on Sunday.

The next challenge for City is to excel on the Champions League stage and Toure believes the signs are good.

Toure, 34, is leaving City this summer after an outstanding eight years at the club, a period in which he was won three Premier League titles and four domestic cups.

After the game a presentation was made to Toure by his brother and former City team-mate Kolo Toure, who had been invited as a surprise special guest by the club.

City, who notched a 105th goal of the campaign through Fernandinho after the break, can now become the first English top-flight team to finish a season with a century of points and 32 wins should they prevail at Southampton on Sunday.

Club captain Vincent Kompany also paid tribute to his old friend who will go down in City folklore for his victor against United in the 2011 FA Cup semi-final and Stoke in the final that ended the club's 35-year wait for a trophy.

Yaya Toure will be remembered as one of the great players in Manchester City's history, says Brighton manager Chris Hughton.

"You know, Yaya does not leave the club because always he'll be part of it. Once, a team will arrive and do better than us, but they will have to do really good".

An Etihad source said: "Leroy loves it here and wants to stay but it looks like it's all going to have to wait for now. Thank you for being a wonderful teammate both in the dressing room and on the pitch".

"I think probably the third goal, which was a poor one to concede, is the one that hurts us the most".
