United star informs Mourinho that he will depart at end of season

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has categorically denied that Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba will not be leaving the club in the summer, insisting that the Red Devils wish to keep the star duo.

"I can give the guarantee that I don't want him to leave and that the club doesn't want to sell him, and I can give the guarantee that we don't have any approach from him or his agent or from any club. That's my feeling", Mourinho said (via Sky Sports).

Pogba has been linked to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain amid reports of a fractured relationship with Mourinho.

Asked if Rashford would be allowed to leave United on loan, Mourinho replied: 'No.

Lukaku, United's top scorer with 27 goals this season, suffered a foot injury in a league win over Arsenal last month.

"I think we need both things which you mentioned [more quality or mentality to bridge the gap in the Premier League]".

"I trust some more than others that can bridge that gap", he added. By contrast, the comments are hardly as convincing as when he was recently asked about club player of the year David De Gea's future.

Speaking ahead of United's Premier League trip to West Ham United on Thursday, Mourinho was reluctant to discuss Ferguson's health in detail out of respect for his family's privacy but was confident the Scot would make a full recovery.

"The most important quality is to be a proper man. Football is not full of them - and not just football, society is not full of them, so when you find one of them, you have to value them and you have to keep them". That's normal. I understand the players.

"In my squad, I have some players where I would like to have better than what I have", he said.

Mourinho has no plans for a major overhaul of his squad, arguing he does not have the finances to buy players at will, which could be interpreted as a criticism of Manchester City. "In this moment for me, he's staying, yes".

"And needless to say, some of those players I'm totally convinced will make it". Unless there's an ideal squad, where you purchase one goalkeeper you do not like, you get another one; you purchase a central defender you do not like, you get another one.
