Everton striker Wayne Rooney wants assurances over future amid DC United interest

British soccer player Wayne Rooney looks set to join MLS side D.C. United from English team Everton, in a deal worth nearly $17 million.

Rooney was a beast back in the day - in fact, he's the Premier League's 2nd leading scorer of all time with 208 goals.

Rooney's salary has not been confirmed but it is understood it will make him the highest player at the club, with the deal set to keep him there until the end of the 2020 season. "Yes", said Allardyce. "There are rumours about Wayne going overseas - in China and America - but at the moment he is an Everton player and an Everton fan".

Now with the Everton Football Club, Rooney's deal is reportedly worth approximately $17 million and his contract would be offered until the end of 2020.

A two-year contract with the MLS side is believed to be on the table.

Such a transfer could now take place when the MLS transfer window opens on July 10.

Earlier this week, Allardyce said Rooney wants to stay and dismissed suggestions England's record goalscorer is frustrated with his role.

Rooney, a veteran of 16 senior seasons, won five Premier League titles and one Champions League with United.

"Yes, not just me, but every player, because he brings loads of experience, so we can all learn from him", he said.

The former England worldwide only rejoined Everton from Manchester United in summer 2017, but it has been a hard season for the Merseyside club.

On Tuesday, Sam Allardyce addressed suggestions that Wayne Rooney would be leaving his boyhood Everton in the summer.
