The Tigers split a traditional doubleheader against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, winning the first game 4-3 before falling in the second game, 9-5. Detroit is nowhere near full strength heading into Sunday's matchup with Seattle's James Paxton, who threw a no-hitter at Toronto in his previous start. That gave Detroit a 2-1 lead.

Jean Segura's eighth-inning single had tied the game, 4-4. With two out, Gordon hit a grounder to the right side, but Jimenez mishandled the toss from first baseman John Hicks for an error, loading the bases. Bench coach Manny Acta managed Seattle while Servais was away — with Ichiro Suzuki serving as bench coach. Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said Castellanos was still sore on Sunday.

Cano has been solid for Seattle this year, batting.289 with four home runs, 23 RBI and 24 runs scored.

Castellanos got hit in his left hand with a pitch Saturday and the team is calling it a "finger contusion".
