Gotham season 5 renewal official; will be final season

By getting to this point, Gotham will get to focus on Bruce Wayne turning into Batman, but the question still remains on how they will get there.

THR's Lesley Goldberg tweeted that per his sources, it appears that Gotham may still have some legs left for a final bout allowing the series to get syndicated thanks to its 100 episode benchmark. FOX dropped Lucifer like a hot potato, surprising everyone, andLucifer's numbers are a lot better than Gotham's are. Gotham was the last remaining series on the current lineup that FOX hadn't made any decisions on until Sunday.

As reported by Screen Rant, the higher-ups at a Warner Bros. requested that the character of The Joker remain on the big screen and in the films of the DC Extended Universe. Season 2 hovered around 4 million viewers, Season 3 dipped to 3 million, and the most recent fourth season was stuck between 2 and 3 million viewers throughout its season, striking a new series low. At that time, David Mazouz's Bruce Wayne was a fairly small but key part of the ensemble, but as the show evolved Bruce came more to the forefront.

Tune into Gotham's season finale this Monday on Fox at 8/7c. Assuming it stays on Thursday nights, we're going to pencil the Gotham season 5 premiere in for late September. It struggled to pull in the DC Comics fans despite stellar writing and out-of-the-park acting performances.

What do you think about this Gotham season 5 renewal and are you glad to see it happening?

Signing off, Mazouz thanked network Fox for the opportunity to "finish strong", and the fans for "keeping this show alive".
