Yellow lab gives birth to eight puppies

Philly-bound airline passengers at Tampa International Airport were treated to a special delivery of some precious cargo Friday after Eleanor Rigby, a 2-year-old golden retriever service dog, successfully birthed eight puppies while waiting to board her flight.

The puppies were delivered with assistance from Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics stationed at the airport, as well as a nurse who had to leave halfway though the delivery to catch her own flight.

The family, the puppies and the parents missed the flight. "She was going up to people and saying hello".

She and her owner were on their way to Philadelphia when Ellie went into labor. Tampa International Airport wrote on its Facebook page. The father of the puppies - a dog named Golden Nugget - was also present at the scene of the delivery.

Paramedics Larry Glanton and lt Natalie Brown delivered seven male pups and a little girl, with proud dad Nugget (also a service dog) by Ellie's side throughout.

Van Atter's stepmother, Karen James of Bradenton, said they planned to get some rest and figure out how to drive the new litter back to Philadelphia.
