Sarri thanked by Napoli chief De Laurentiis amid Ancelotti reports

Napoli have appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their new head coach on a three-year contract, replacing Maurizio Sarri in the post.

Shocked by Napoli's ability to lure Carlo Ancelotti to the Serie A club, star forward Lorenzo Insigne welcomed the Italian great's arrival, while he thanked former boss Maurizio Sarri.

"I like a lot watching Napoli and I learn a lot from Maurizio's teams", said Pep Guardiola after Napoli faced Manchester City this season.

Ancelotti comes with plenty of experience having won 19 titles including four Champions Leagues and he has won the Bundesliga, the Premier League, Serie A and Ligue 1.

His son Davide and his son-in-law Mino Fulco will also be on the Napoli coaching staff.

Napoli finished as Serie A runners-up in 2017-18 despite posting a club-record 91 points, Juventus winning the Scudetto for the seventh year in a row. Their last league title success was in 1990.

Conte, 48, remains in charge of Chelsea for the time being but it appears inevitable that he will depart before the World Cup starts.

He was heavily linked with the Italian national-team job before the Italian Football Federation confirmed Roberto Mancini in the role, per Tom Doyle of the Evening Standard. He is the only coach in history to win the Championships of Italy, England, France and Germany.

Chelsea are also being linked with Leon Bailey, Jamaal Lascelles and Jean-Michael Seri.

And there are other moves behind the scenes aimed at making a Chelsea move for Sarri as smooth as possible. Sarri's brand of thrilling attacking football has won him many plaudits across Europe, with a number of top clubs taking notice.

"Welcome back to Italy Ancelotti!"
