Bashar Assad warned against hitting U.S

Israel, which is deeply alarmed by Tehran's influence in Syria, said it destroyed dozens of Iranian military sites in Syria in May, after Iranian forces in Syria fired rockets at Israeli-held territory for the first time.

"Don't believe anything that is said about an agreement on the south until you see that the United States has withdrawn its forces from the At-Tanaf base", he said.

Syrian forces, backed by Russian air power and Iranian-backed militias, will "liberate by force" rebel- and Islamic State-held territory, Mr. Assad said. "Israel will continue to maintain its operational freedom to act against Iranian entrenchment in all of Syria", they said.

Muallem also said that the presence of U.S. forces in Syria was illegitimate and they must withdraw from the Syrian territory, including Tanf area in the south.

The report came amid calls by Israel that what it calls "Iranian forces' should be kept away from its borders with Syria". This week, the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said all foreign forces - a reference to Iran and its allied militias - should immediately leave the Daraa province, which borders Israel.

Next week, Netanyahu will leave for France and Germany to discuss Iran's role in Syria and the nuclear deal which the Europeans are trying to salvage after the USA withdrawal earlier this month.

Israel must demand a full accounting of the Iranian forces in Syria and that any agreements made on the south be based on verification.

That would be along Israel and Jordan's borders with Syria.

Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya announced to journalists Friday that an agreement was reached that would involve removing all Iranian forces from the Syria-Israel border in the Golan Heights. In the past year, Netanyahu and his top ministers have stepped up diplomacy with Moscow to make the strategic case that it's not in Russia's interest to allow Iran to turn Syria into a client state like Lebanon, according to USA and Israeli officials.

Tel Aviv hit back over 30 airstrikes targeting several known jihadi redoubts and training camps inside Palestinian-controlled Gaza, in one of the heaviest Israeli aerial barrage since the 2014 war with Hamas.

Al-Muallem added at a press conference, "we sent 50 names, the Syrian state should have the majority in any number which will be agreed upon, and the committee's decisions should be taken unanimously".

Scores of Iranian soldiers have been killed in battles with insurgents in Syria, including a number of officers.

The remarks by al-Moallem came in response to the recent reports of a Russian-backed deal in southern Syria about the withdrawal of Iranian-backed forces from areas close to the Syrian border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. "We consider what have been achieved in Syria result of Syrians' efforts to eradicate terrorism", noted Shamkhani who was defense chief from 1997 to 2005.
