Manchester City to begin title defence against Arsenal

Tottenham must confirm by Friday whether they will need to use Wembley - their home ground for 2017-18 - for any games next season.

"Wembley was great for us last season and we are even more used to that than we are the new stadium".

Wenger chose to step down at the end of last season after nearly 22 years in charge of the north London club.

Boss Pep Guardiola has never lost to Emery in 10 meetings - including six victories - with Goater adding: "City will be looking to win that first game, which I think is really important".

The Premier League fixtures for the 2018-19 season were published on Thursday (Thursday night NZ Time) and the Arsenal-Man City game was the standout on the opening weekend.

Arsenal will begin proceedings by hosting the reigning champions at the Emirates before travelling to Stamford Bridge the following weekend. Oof.

A mid-September fixture against title challengers Liverpool will also be the opening game at the new Tottenham Stadium although the lack of home games, with only four until November, hasn't gone unnoticed.

"We are so excited to have the date of the first Premier League match at our new stadium", he said.

Liverpool will play Southampton, Man City, Cardiff, Fulham, Everton and - in a particularly ironic twist - Man United at home in the domestic games directly proceeding Champions League nights. This is first time a club has been allowed to play home games at two venues in the same season.

The reverse fixture could had seen City win the title against their rivals, however a second half resurgence from United saw City lose 3-2 with a Paul Pogba double and Chris Smalling goal overshadowing the first half performance.

None of the teams involved in the Champions League will know the extent of their travels until the draw for the group stage, which does not take place until August.

"We had always meant to request a few games away at the start of the season".

They begin their Premier League season at home to West Ham before facing Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester.
