England's Raheem Sterling says criticism of lifestyle is no concern

England's Raheem Sterling says criticism of lifestyle is no concern

"Obviously any time, if we were to give the opposition the opportunity of having our team, it's a disadvantage to us", Southgate told Talksport radio station.

"When can we say 'can you check the TV?' Because we had the referees meeting and if we do put that forward to them and he doesn't agree, he can show us the yellow".

England will undertake their final training session on Friday before they make the trip to Nizhny Novgorod for the game, with Alli not expected to be involved if he misses out.

His form earned him a spot in England's 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation and he impressed off the bench in the last 10 minutes of their opening group game, a 2-1 win over Tunisia.

"We knew how they were going to play but also how the referees are going to treat us", he added. It is a squad of 23 names on the sheet, the next sheet has different players in different positions because we swap people in and swap people out.

Such was his performance, there has been speculation that he could be about to replace Raheem Sterling in the starting lineup for England's next game against Panama on Sunday. They try and shoot themselves in the foot [at] every World Cup they go to. "In the World Cup, maybe not". Tunisia like to play the ball out from the back and were very patient but Panama are probably more direct.

Defender John Stones says England have done their homework on Panama and says it is clear where the biggest area for improvement needs to be. "We need to be compact and limit their space".

- Panama will be the 38th different nation England have faced at a World Cup - of the previous 37, they have only lost their first meeting against five; United States of America and Spain in 1950, Uruguay in 1954, Hungary in 1962 and Italy in 1990.

Sterling, who started England's opening World Cup win over Tunisia in Group G on Monday, has received negative media coverage over his allegedly "lavish" spending habits, including when he bought his mother a house in 2016.

The 22-year-old Tottenham star has been struggling with a thigh injury since the Tunisia game, missing consecutive days of training, and it appears that Southgate may not be willing to risk him unnecessarily.
