The Coast Guard's Seventh District received a call about 11 a.m. from the Royal Bahamas Police Force requesting assistance after boaters suffered from various injuries. Luckily, Paul and Brooke minor injuries, including bruises and cuts.

In less than a day, a GoFundMe site set up for Schaffer raised more than $50,000 to help with medical expenses and travel.

Brooke and Stefanie's father, George Schaffer, and their brother, George Jr., are traveling to be with them in the Bahamas.

The group who were on the boat when the explosion happened were 10 Americans and two Bahamian crew members. "The kind words and prayers are very much needed and appreciated".

A tropical vacation turned tragedy for an American family when their tour boat in the Bahamas exploded, killing one woman and injuring several others.

"This is a sad day for Exuma and a sad day for our American friends", said Chester Cooper, Exumas and Ragged Island MP, in a statement posted to Facebook.

Officials with the country's police, fire and civil aviation departments are conducting an investigation into the explosion, Shanta Knowles, superintendent of police for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, told the Associated Press.

According to wire reports, on Saturday the family was on a boat tour off the island of Exuma, located about 130 miles south of Nassau.

Four injured Americans were airlifted by the Coast Guard and taken to St. Pete-Clearwater airport.
