Blues near Daniele Rugani deal with David Luiz a Napoli target

Alvaro Morata, Pedro, Cesc Fabregas, Marcos Alonso, Davide Zappacosta, Emerson Palmieri, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley returned on Saturday as they weren't playing in this summer's World Cup.

Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has always been tipped as Conte's successor, but talks between the two clubs are understood to have reached an impasse as they look to agree on a compensation package.

Meanwhile, the west London giants have begun pre-season training without the involvement of current boss Antonio Conte and this appears to give a clear indication that the 48-year-old should end his association with the club in the coming days.

And they have also found issues with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is reluctant to let Sarri go.

The Italian giants want to strengthen their back-line ahead of next season and with Ancelotti known to be an admirer of Luiz, it seems he is willing to make efforts to lure him away from Stamford Bridge.

Sarri guided Napoli to a 2 place finish in the Serie A last season nearly winning the Italian title but the Partenopei replaced him with Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea's transfer business has been stalled, with the transfer window for Premier League clubs now being set at August 9, giving them four more weeks to bolster their squad.

Once installed as Conte's successor, Sarri is likely to press ahead with moves for Aleksandr Golovin and highly-rated Juventus defender Daniel Rugani.

Chelsea have now entered the fray for Jorginho, pushed forward by prospective new manager Maurizio Sarri.
