Irish 18-Year-Old Gets Chance To Impress Pep Guardiola

Mahrez, 27 years old, has made the move to the Etihad in a £60m deal as Guardiola looks to mould the tricky winger into the ideal player to push Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane for their starting positions in the side. "He's so young and in two years it is another European Championships and then in four years another World Cup", Guardiola said during a press conference during their USA tour.

Sterling is going into the final two years of his contract, and City could look to keep him on, despite the club seeming laid back about the situation.

'English football received an exceptional player at the end.

Guardiola also spoke of his disappointment in missing out on transfer target Jorginho after the Italy midfielder joined Chelsea on a five-year deal last weekend. "We have young players who can play, we'll see, Douglas Luiz, Claudio Gomes so we'll see".

Guardiola has travelled to the United States for games against Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Bayern Munich with a squad made up mostly of young players as many of his regular stars are enjoying an extended break following their exploits in Russian Federation.

'For the guy, it would have been a mistake for him and for us if he had chose to come here when he wanted to go with Maurizio (Sarri) and Chelsea.

However, just before the half-hour mark, Dortmund went ahead from the penalty spot.

Promising youngsters Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz are amongst the huge number of academy players in Guardiola's squad. If they are exhausted and they don't want to fight for the Community Shield, play at Arsenal, then stay on holidays.

He said: "We will decide on them at the end of pre-season".

Potential absentees from Manchester City's pre-season tour and Premier League opener after their World Cup exertions. "I think he's been the best coach in the world over the last six, seven, eight years".

"It will be a good experience for them [the young players] to realise they can compete [at senior level] and play well".

"We will try to be ready to play every game like we did past year".

However, the Borussia Dortmund forward said he could not explain the absence of City winger Sane, who was not picked despite his outstanding performances in the Premier League.
