Malcom, signed; the player is on his way Barcelona

Barcelona appear to have stolen in on a deal for Bordeaux forward Malcom at the eleventh hour on Monday night, in an incredible turn of events which also involves Italian giants AS Roma.

Barcelona made contact with Bordeaux following the failure to sign Brazil worldwide Willian from Chelsea and, according to Italian media reports, made a bid larger than the reported fee of 38 million euros ($44.4 million) struck with Roma.

Roma confirmed on Monday that they had reached an agreement to bring the 21-year-old to the Italian capital for a fee of €38m (£34m/$44m).

Bordeax winger Malcom was due to join Roma on Tuesday but Barcelona's intervention derailed that deal.

Bordeaux refused to sell Malcom in the January transfer window, with Gus Poyet announcing he would not have taken the manager's job without assurances the forward would remain until at least the end of the season.

Barcelona then came in with a late offer of their own and Malcom has now agreed a five-year contract at the Camp Nou. Instead, terms were being negotiated with Barca, who had gazumped Roma's bid, which was reported to have been in the region of €32m.

He can play through the middle but is primarily a winger and he scored 12 goals last season to help Bordeaux to a sixth-placed finish, drawing attention from a number of European sides.
