Michael Cohen sent up flares, but Trump never came to help

In a bombshell claim, Mr Cohen said he was with the President when Donald Trump Jr told him Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton at a June 2016 meeting, CNN reports.

CNN reported that Cohen does not have evidence to back up his story, such as audio recordings, but that he is willing to discuss it with special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE, who is investigating any ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

"Now he's saying [Cohen] has been lying for years, and President Trump is bringing up that Cohen said that Don Jr. was an honest broker just last year".

"Donald Trump Jr. has been professional and responsible throughout the Mueller and Congressional investigations", said Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for Donald Trump Jr.

The rebuttals came after a CNN report, widely followed by U.S. media outlets, that Mr Cohen is prepared to claim that the president knew about a now-infamous meeting in Trump Tower before the presidential election.

In the recording, the two men are heard discussing a payment to Trump's friend David Pecker, who heads American Media Incorporated.

Cohen said Trump then approved of going ahead with the meeting, CNN reported on Thursday night, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN on Thursday: "As far as Michael Cohen's credibility, Rudy Giuliani described him as a proven liar, but all of his lies in the past were on behalf of Donald Trump". "Why would you expect it would be true from someone like Cohen?"

But after the release of the Trump-Cohen recording, Trump criticized his former attorney, saying on Wednesday, "What kind of a lawyer would tape a client?

He's been lying for years", Giuliani said of Cohen.

The criticism Giuliani is now leveling at Cohen follows a series of reports that have led the President to lash out at his former lawyer. Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?).

The meeting was set up after a Russian intermediary contacted Trump Jr with a promise to provide material that would "incriminate" Hillary Clinton - the Democratic candidate in the 2016 presidential election. In an interview with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos earlier this month, Cohen criticized members of Trump's presidential campaign who attended the 2016 meeting.

Rudy Giuliani, the president's lawyer and lead attorney on issues related to the Russian Federation inquiry, said Thursday on CNN that Cohen was "just not credible". The Russian government said through intermediaries to Trump Jr. that it was supporting Trump and wanted to help the campaign.

"My observation is that it was an evolution that caused him to decide once Donald Trump was president that he had to tell truth and change his life", Davis told the AP.

President Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said Monday that he's not sure collusion with Russian Federation would be considered a crime, marking a sharp advancement of the President's longtime defense that there was no collusion between his campaign and Moscow. But he also left open the possibility that Trump might have known but later forgot about it. Trump Jr. responded that if the information was good, "I love it", and the two began to arrange the rendezvous.

"Robert Mueller and his gang of 13 Angry Democrats obviously can not find Collusion", Trump said during a new set of tweets, so "now they are looking at my Tweets (along with 53 million other people)".
