Virat Kohli dedicates his Test century to wife Anushka Sharma

"The support from them was outstanding", Kohli added.

Upon bringing up his hundred, the 29-year-old let out a triumphant roar and kissed the wedding ring he wears around his neck, gesturing to the stands at his wife.

This brilliant century took India to a respectable score of 274, which is only 13 runs short of England's first inning total.

On the work front, Anushka will soon begin promotions of her upcoming film Sui Dhaaga which also stars Varun Dhawan.

With England's pace bowlers running through India's much vaunted top order to leave them reeling on 100-5, it was left to captain Kohli to string together a series of partnerships as he seemed to be on a one-man mission to overhaul England's first innings total of 287. This could not have been possible without the support of Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.

It was an opening the Indians made the most of, with England reaching stumps at 9-285.

Behind Root as he stormed off, Kohli celebrated by blowing a kiss, mouthing some fruity advice, putting his finger to his lips and adding a "mic-drop" - mocking Root's gesture last month, after he had clinched the one-day global series at Headingley with a second successive hundred.

Resuming the final session from 163/3, England batters failed to utilize the batting-friendly conditions at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground and went back back one after the other.

Initially it looked like they could be set for a long, hard day in the field, with India's openers reaching 50 without a scare. "It's a five-match series and Virat has got off to a flyer with 149 and great players once they get into rhythm, once they get into form and once they get into confidence, they are very hard to stop".

In a gripping hour after lunch, England all-rounder Ben Stokes took the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane (15) and Dinesh Karthik (0) in consecutive overs.

But the introduction of Curran turned the tide in England's favour.

In doing so, Stokes become the eighth Englishman to complete the double of 2,000 runs and 100 wickets in Test cricket. I could have said no, there's no hard feelings, we've just got to move on with it.

Two balls later Curran dismissed KL Rahul for four via an ugly flat-bat drag-on.

Kambli recalled one of his ODI centuries back in 1996 and found similarities with the kind of celebration Kohli did on Thursday.
