Trump's Former Lawyer Michael Cohen 'Has Evidence Of Russia Collusion'

Cohen, Giuliani suggested, is as unreliable as an unreliable witness gets. In the interview, he argued, incorrectly, that the hush-money payouts weren't "even a campaign violation" because he subsequently reimbursed Cohen for the payments personally instead of with campaign funds.

A mistrial was declared in ten further counts he faces, although 69 year-old Manafort still faces dying in jail when he is sentenced.

Among the things Cohen has special "knowledge" about that he thinks will be of great "interest" to Robert Mueller, said Davis, is information about "a conspiracy to collude and corrupt the American democracy system" as well as what Trump knew and when about the Russian hacking. Although not part of Trump's administration, Hunter's and Collins' downfalls signal Trump's support in the legislative branch is not insulated from corruption.

"I know that Mr. Cohen would never accept a pardon from a man that he considers to be both corrupt and a unsafe person in the Oval Office, and he has flatly authorized me to say under no circumstances would he accept a pardon from Mr. Trump", Davis said.

There has been speculation that Manafort, who has maintained his innocence, may be hoping for a presidential pardon as a reward for his loyalty.

"There are subjects that Michael Cohen could address that would be of interest to the special counsel", Davis said in a series of television interviews.

Trump's response was to discredit Cohen - contrasting his actions with the "brave" Manafort. "'Justice" took a 12 year old tax case, among other things, applied tremendous pressure on him and, unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to "break" - make up stories in order to get a "deal.' Such respect for a courageous man!"

"It's going to be hard for the president to try to discredit all this".

It all adds up to a "very big deal", said Neal Katyal, a former USA solicitor general.

Lanny Davis, who represented Cohen in his plea deal with the federal government, told NPR that Cohen would refuse a pardon if it were offered.

Mueller is investigating Russian attempts to influence the 2016 election and whether there was any cooperation or links with the Trump campaign.

He added that Cohen, who once said he would "take a bullet" for Trump, had a change of heart after watching Trump be "reckless" as president.

Cohen worked with the media company to "arrange for the purchase of two stories so as to suppress them and prevent them from influencing the election", according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said the payments, created to influence the election by keeping the women's stories out of the public eye, amounted to an illegal and unreported campaign contribution.

'Michael Cohen plead guilty to two counts of campaign finance violations that are not a crime. "Since modern campaign-finance laws were passed, no sitting president has been found to be involved personally in a campaign-finance violation".

President Donald Trump's long-time attorney and "fixer" is facing prison time.

Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to 8 crimes:... "There are no charges against him", press secretary Sarah Sanders said at a White House briefing. Sources close to the White House have acknowledged to NPR that advisers are "very worried" - or at least ought to be - about the mounting legal troubles swirling around Trump and his former associates. At the West Virginia rally, he focused on developments on trade, taxes, North Korea and his plans for a space force.
