HBO teases first official footage from final season. Watch here

"Something extraordinary", the Mother of Dragons responds in the first look of the final season of Game of Thrones.

"So we'll still have quite a lot to do on season eight when they're beginning". Although the eighth season of Game of Thrones will only be 6 episodes long, HBO promises they will be the most intense episodes of the franchise.

Most of the Thrones scenes in the preview were pulled from the show's seventh season.

Devastatingly, fans of the show have been without a new episode for nearly a whole year.

On Sunday night, HBO released a video montage of upcoming shows. That was largely taken to mean a return to the regular April slot for its premiere, but VFX supervisor Joe Bauer has cast doubts on that. But sources have now confirmed that the series finale will not be released until June or July next year - much-like season seven's release in July 2017. But the footage of an unhappy Sansa hugging a morose Jon is sure to keep fans speculating. So by Bauer saying "in two years", he means 2020, meaning the episodes will air too late in 2018 to be contenders for the 2019 awards.

The footage is quick, but you can finally see Streep in her wig she was seen sporting in photos from the set. In a blink-and-you-almost-missed-it moment, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) embraces Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) back home in Winterfell, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Game of Thrones prequel Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.

The sweetness, beside from Sansa's now-signature steely glare, starts at 1:10 with the caption "Final Season".
