Cowboys Made A Big Trade Offer For A Star NFL Player

After holding out through the entire preseason, All-Pro safety and rumored Cowboys trade target Earl Thomas is reporting to the Seattle Seahawks ahead of their first regular season game.

Seattle wasn't interested - the team wanted more.

The Cowboys have no intention of offering more than a second-round draft pick for Earl Thomas and plan to go into Sunday's opener with their current roster, a source said.

With Thomas saying a couple of times that he won't return to the Seahawks without a contract extension and a lack of signs that a contract extension is something the team is interested in extending his way, no end to the Thomas saga appears to be in sight.

Thomas was adamant in receiving a contract extension or to be traded by the Seahawks, and if neither happened, he wouldn't report to the team. I've never let me teammates, city or fans down as long as I've lived and don't plan on starting this weekend.

"Father Time may have an undefeated record but best believe I plan on taking him into triple overtime when it comes to my career", Thomas wrote. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks have agreed to wipe away nearly all of his fines for missing training camp.

Dallas had not been the only club interested in trading for the Seahawks safety, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Friday, "multiple teams" had been in the hunt.

Seattle had been thought wanting at least a second-round pick all along with it thought Dallas had not offered more than a third.

The Seahawks have not shown a willingness to extend Thomas after this season and he may not be willing to re-sign with Seattle at this point, anyway.

Thomas is a three-time first-team All-Pro and was the anchor for the Seattle defence that appeared in consecutive Super Bowls, winning the first.

But Seahawks coach Pete Carroll foreshadowed that maybe something was going on when he was asked Monday if there had been any additional contact with Thomas and he paused and said there was "nothing to report".
