The music world took a huge hit on September 7 when 26-year-old rapper Mac Miller was found dead in his Studio City, CA home from an apparent drug overdose.

Rapper Mac Miller was found dead on Friday of an apparent overdose, Variety has confirmed.

"The music artist known as Mac Miller died today in his Studio City home", the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said in a statement.

TMZ reports that Mac Miller was found on Friday at his home in San Fernando Valley.

Mac Miller's untimely death has rocked Hollywood.

A year later, his first album, "Blue Slide Park", debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

Miller had been set to go on tour next month and just hours before his death had posted an Instagram story showing a vinyl record playing lyrics from his song So it Goes.

According to reports, Miller had still been feeling the emotional impact of his breakup from longtime girlfriend Ariana Grande, as well as her subsequent whirlwind engagement to "SNL" star Pete Davidson shortly after they split.

In a separate tweet, he told his 8.4 million followers, "I just wanna go on tour".

Miller had long struggled with substance abuse issues.

Fellow hip hop stars Chance The Rapper, J Cole and Snoop Dogg paid tribute to Miller on Twitter.

Mac Miller was just enjoying an evening out with his friends the night before his tragic death yesterday.

He continued releasing successful albums and mixtapes and in 2014, he signed with Warner Bros.

It has not yet been reported what exactly caused Mac's death, but for now we're sending our condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

He was also arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and a hit-and-run case, which led Grande to tweet out a message to "take care of yourself".

The two dated for two years and Ariana mentioned his substance abuse was a real deal breaker for their relationship. Vulture published a profile of him on Thursday.

"I like that he incorporated Pittsburgh so much into it", said Arielle Pierce, a fan. "I love you bro, and will miss you". "I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figures it all out and that any other woman in this position does as well", she said.

'I love how comfortable I am making a beat on LIVE, ' Miller can be heard saying on Instagram Live as he toyed around on his keyboards.

"He was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew, "the rapper wrote on Twitter".
