Sportsmail compares Tottenham and Liverpool ahead of the Wembley clash

Liverpool weren't close to challenging Manchester City for the Premier League in 2017/18, but they were able to reach the Champions League final before being defeated by Real Madrid in Kiev.

Tottenham had picked up maximum points from their opening three games, including humiliating Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

The Egypt global, with 32 goals, pipped his England rival to the coveted prize despite Kane's first 30-league-goal season.

Hislop, who made his mark in England's top flight during his time with West Ham and Newcastle United, says that Liverpool would be committing an injustice to their high-profile signings if they decide to follow Neville's advice this year.

"The football they are playing under Jürgen Klopp, it's fantastic".

"How do you prepare for a game when you don't focus on it?"

"It's our fifth season at Tottenham and if someone knows him really well I think we do". I think that's what let Liverpool down in the past - they had to play well to win, whereas now they look a lot more solid defensively and can still attack and score goals.

"Then like always I told you, I never talk about situations, that maybe yes or maybe no, the club is dealing or working". To focus on one competition can only be if you are out, or almost out, or of if it's late in the season. We have to play football.

Alli has been ruled out of the match against Liverpool due to injury, and Tottenham manager Pochettino has suggested that the 22-year-old England global striker will miss the Champions League match against Inter.

"I think you should go for all competitions", he said.

"I think Tottenham should have probably have signed more players in the summer".

Jurgen Klopp has laughed off suggestions Liverpool should abandon the Champions League to focus on winning an English title (Nick Potts/PA). 'If it's late in the season that you see you have a chance to do that or do this and all that stuff.

"For me, Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe, not only in England".

Alisson and Keita are set to play a crucial role all season for the Anfield outfit and there is real excitement among the Liverpool camp that this could finally be their year to land some much-needed silverware.
