EPL TITLE RACE : Sarri rules Chelsea out, tips City, Reds for success

John Terry will get to make the decision over what job he takes should he opt to return to Chelsea as a coach, says Maurizio Sarri. He made 717 appearances, 580 as captain and lifted 16 major trophies.

"I was training every day".

It appears unlikely Terry will be returning to Stamford Bridge - for now. But if he wants to help us, I'm really very happy.

Sarri said: "The last time I spoke with him, about a week ago, he told me that he wants to play for another season". Of course I am open [to having] him because of his history with the club.

"For sure he will be a point of reference for me, for everybody here (if he returned)". 'Fortunately, we have very strong young players; (Ruben) Loftus-Cheek, (Callum) Hudson-Odoi, Ampadu, and I'd like to give them the right space.

Chelsea are back in action on Saturday when they host newly-promoted Cardiff City.

"I can answer City or Liverpool, at the moment", added Sarri on which sides are title contenders.

"We need another step, I think, to be the same level". "[But] in this first period, for me, it was very important not to change, especially the defensive line".

"It is very hard to recover 30 points in one season, very hard".

Cesc Fabregas is fit again following a knee injury, but Sarri suggested it may be more beneficial for the playmaker to train this weekend, rather than be a substitute. 'They are very, very young and they are, for sure, the future of the club.' Loftus-Cheek is a doubt for the game against Cardiff as Chelsea return to Premier League action following the global break.

"But the Premier League is very competitive, other teams have a lot of good players and it will not be easy". It is hard game for everyone against Cardiff.
