Sophie Turner is villainous in Dark Phoenix trailer

Looks like there's a major death coming to the X-Men, at least judging by the first trailer for the franchise's latest release, "Dark Phoenix".

Dark Phoenix centers around Sophie Turner's (Game of Thrones) Jean Grey, a powerful mutant with dark powers given to her by a cosmic entity named Phoenix.

In the movie, Jean Grey (Turner) is almost killed after being hit by a cosmic force.

Much of the footage revolves around Grey, focusing on her traumatic childhood and extreme power. We see Jean have a hard time adjusting to life with other mutants and being overwhelmed by her powers, which are magnifying rapidly.

According to an official synopsis from the movie studio Fox, the next "X-Men" movie will simply be called "Dark Phoenix". Whether you're ready to score tickets for the blockbuster of the year, binge-watch the latest hit series or track down that collector's DVD, Moviefone makes it happen - fast, cheap and just how you like it. The new X-Men movie is an adaptation of the 1980 comic book storyline The Dark Phoenix Saga by Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, and John Byrne.

Turner revealed the trailer on Wednesday's "Late Late Show" alongside James Corden. The film revolves around a young Jean Grey, played by Sophie Turner, who tries to understand her powers. Dark Phoenix releases on February 14, 2019.

Alexandra Shipp (Storm), and even Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) reprise their roles as the powerful mutants who must team up to prevent a world-threatening catastrophe. When she returns, she finds herself limitlessly stronger, but also unbalanced.

"It's really interesting to have those two characters be kind of the two biggest characters in the movie and both be female and so layered and so complex", she added.
