José Mourinho says he was happy with Manchester United’s improvement

United face Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday and, speaking prior to the clash at Old Trafford, Scholes slammed Mourinho's behaviour.

"You would be getting another reason to criticise me, I think you have had enough".

On his defenders' performance, the Portuguese said: "They tried, they raised the level of their intensity".

One of Mourinho's fiercest critics has proved to be Paul Scholes, who said on BT Sport before the game that Mourinho was embarrassing the club and was lucky not to have been sacked already.

"I think there are things that are hard for me to say and if I say [them] it's not good for me and even yourself would be getting another reason to criticise me", he told a news conference. Let us know in the comments section below.

Man City fans will have loved seeing their former hero putting the boot into Man United and the now current Hammer clearly wasn't too impressed with what he came up against on Saturday lunchtime.

Manchester United are now 10th in the Premier League, nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City and without a clean sheet in their last three outings. "I would prefer to say that last season we finished second in the league, were runners-up in the FA Cup and topped our Champions League group".

United's second-place finish last term flattered their cagey performances, but the formula - heavily reliant on goalkeeper David De Gea's consistent heroics - was less likely to yield success this season.

"We knew that our attacking players aren't in the best individual form and confidence".

"We have two matches against Juventus to make points".

United, who have not won in their past four matches across all competitions, will take on Newcastle United in a Premier League fixture this coming weekend.
