Mega Millions, Powerball jackpots reach almost $1 billion combined

The bloated payouts are a function of a jackpot drought.

More than two months ago Powerball hit for the last time when New Yorker Nandlall Mangal was the sole victor of $245.6 million, lottery officials said.

Mega Millions Lottery forms are pictured at Ted's State Line Mobil in Methuen, Mass., July 24, 2018. It's $345 million, or $199 million in cash. They're stuck at a miserable one in 302.5 million. So don't quit your day job just yet.

It smashed the previous record, a $656 million jackpot that was split three ways in 2012.

And Friday's Mega Millions wasn't a complete bust. The $345 million jackpot is the game's largest since the March 17 drawing, when a $456.7 million jackpot was won on a ticket sold in Pennsylvania. It was the largest prize distributed for a single ticket.

The estimated $654 million jackpot refers to the annuity option, paid out over 29 years.

That's when the next Powerball drawing is. Powerball reaches all those areas plus Puerto Rico. Winning tickets in that drawing came from Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.

"Jackpot fever is definitely sweeping the country!' Medenica said".
