Mourinho praises Pogba’s penalty courage in much-needed Man Utd win

He continued: 'I think in some moments of the game we showed good football.

The fans booed and Pickford eventually made an excellent save but Pogba was alert and managed to slot home his own rebound to give Manchester United a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Chris Smalling, on his 300th United appearance, made their task more hard than it should have been when his rash challenge allowed Gylfi Sigurdsson to halve the deficit from the spot, but the hosts held firm to quickly move on from their limp Champions League loss to Juventus in midweek.

'We were unlucky that we didn't win against Chelsea in the last second and, as you saw, in this game also in the last minute we had some trouble after a corner kick. "One day he will score and one day his confidence levels will be back to normal, which clearly they are not [at the moment] but I always feel that". We had it under control even when it was 2-1.

"I am happy again".

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba's unique run-up while taking a penalty has become quite the talking point this season.

"I might have to start to change it because maybe the goalkeepers start to know my steps". He missed against Everton and today they get two penalties [against Arsenal]and he wants to take.

"Paul wants to take them and that, for me, is fantastic".

Speaking about Pogba to Sky Italia, Nedved said he it would be wonderful if they could have the World Cup victor in their squad.

Meanwhile, Pogba revealed he was lucky to have scored his penalty after seeing his effort saved.

The 12 young soccer players whose rescue from a Thai cave in July captured an global spotlight attended a Manchester United match and met several of the players this weekend. We should, how we like to say, kill the game with the goal, but we didn't score and when you don't score this happens. In the last nine matches between Rashford and Lukaku we score one goal.

With the Toffees sitting a point ahead and on a three-game winning streak in the top flight, Mourinho feels there is not much between the two sides.

"After we carried on and had other chances, most important thing was the win".
