More Than 5000 Troops Deployed To The Border

O'Shaughnessy said the mission of what's being called Operation Faithful Patriot is to harden the border in preparation for the caravan of asylum-seeking migrant families making its way north through Mexico. "This is an invasion of our Country and our Military is waiting for you!"

U.S. President Donald Trump has hardened his stance on immigration ahead of November 6 congressional elections.

The massive deployment marks a sharp increase from initial estimates last week, when United States officials said about 800 active-duty troops would head south.

Migrants walk along train tracks in Mexico.

Many in the caravan have been on the road for more than two weeks, since the group first formed in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.Raul Medina Melendez, security chief for the tiny municipality in Oaxaca state, said the town was distributing sandwiches and water to migrants camped in the central square Saturday night when a man with a megaphone asked people to wait their turn. Some hurled insults at the man with the megaphone, then they attacked him, Medina said.

CBP Assistant Commissioner of Public Affairs Andrew Meehan said in a news conference Monday afternoon that there are approximately 3,500 people in one group, which is now at the Chiapas-Oaxaca border in southern Mexico.

"If they apply for asylum, we are going to hold them until such time as their trial takes place".

That's in addition to the more than 2,000 members of the National Guard already helping at the border now.

He is expected to hold 11 rallies in the days ahead of the November 6 midterms, which Washington pundits are characterizing as a referendum on his presidency.

Last month, USA agents arrested a record number of migrant family members along the border, and more than half of those taken into custody now are parents with children or minors traveling along, McAleenan said.

"Many Gang Members and some very bad people are mixed into the Caravan heading to our Southern Border", Trump wrote.

General of the USA air force on meet the press said that "to the end of the week referred to the military contingent will be placed in the South-Western sector of our border, and this is only the beginning of large-scale operations".

The Pentagon last week approved a request for additional troops at the southern border. It remained unclear Monday why the administration was choosing to send active-duty troops given that they will be limited to performing the same support functions the Guard already is doing.

The U.S. military has already begun delivering jersey barriers to the southern border in conjunction with the deployment plans.

USA Today reported that the Department of Defense will deploy 5,000 military personnel to the border, where they are "not expected to conduct law enforcement activities, but instead provide backup support to Border Patrol agents manning the border and be prepared to react if groups of migrants try to storm the border". It remains hundreds of miles from USA soil. Please go back, you will not be admitted into the United States unless you go through the legal process.
