Turkish authorities are reportedly also investigating the possibility that Khashoggi's body was destroyed with acid after it was dismembered.

Turkish prosecutors plan to seek the extradition of 18 suspects in the slaying of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi so they can be prosecuted.

Besides providing "enormous opportunities" for American "wealth generation", the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains a "solid partner" in the United States effort to "change" Iran's behavior, Pompeo said.

The murder of the royal insider-turned-critic has provoked widespread outrage and fuelled an worldwide debate about arms deliveries to Saudi Arabia.

The Israeli PM had asked top U.S. officials recently not to abandon their support for bin Salman over the killing of Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkey's Istanbul, according to multiple reports.

The crown prince stated Khashoggi was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, prior to Saudi Arabia formally acknowledging it was responsible for the journalist's death.

Germany and Switzerland have vowed to halt arms sales to Saudi Arabia until the case is clarified. Ankara maintains that there is strong proof that the killing of the Saudi journalist at the Saudi consulate on October 2 came as a result of a pre-planned operation by a squad of hitmen rather than a spontaneous fist-fight incident, as claimed by Riyadh.

"We're going to find the fact pattern", he said.

Mr Khashoggi's family vehemently denied that he was in any way risky or a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. He denied such claims repeatedly over the past several years.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also called on Riyadh to disclose the identity of an alleged local collaborator said to have been involved in disposing of Khashoggi's body.

He entered the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul a month ago to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage, but never left.

A source close to the Saudi Royal Palace told CNN last week that the location of Khashoggi's body was not known to the Saudis.

Fidan, the Istanbul prosecutor, on Wednesday said that Khashoggi was strangled shortly after entering the consulate and that his body was dismembered afterward.

One Israeli official said, "Saudi Arabia is a very important state in the region, and Israel and other nations have a major interest in ensuring its continued stability".

After Saudi Arabia admitted that Khashoggi was killed in its Istanbul consulate, five high-ranking officials were dismissed, including bin Salman's media chief and the deputy head of the Saudi intelligence service.
