Diablo Immortal brings Blizzard's dungeon crawler to mobile

Blizzard has announced a new action-RPG Diablo game coming to mobile devices, called Diablo: Immortal.

Six iconic and highly customizable Diablo character classes will be available in Diablo Immortal-Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard-each with new powers and abilities, with more playable classes planned for future updates. You can now pre-register for the game on Google Play, but fret not if you're on iOS, it's going there, too. Blizzard also says the game has an active place in Diablo lore, taking place in the lull of time between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3.

The story in Diablo Immortal focuses on the aftermath of the destruction of the Worldstone in Diablo II with demonic invaders trying to bring back a rule of terror.

Unsurprisingly, fan response to Diablo Immortal has been...just a bit harsh.

The announcement came with some official gameplay and it will be interesting to see how Blizzard adopts the game to a touch-screen format. Yes, but I won't dismiss Diablo Immortal out of hand.

Drop in or out of groups easily and engage in dynamic events all over the world, teaming up with other heroes as you take down Skarn's minions-and reap powerful rewards.

Shortly after the announcement Blizzard was hosting a Q&A with fans and one fan made the best of his opportunity.

Diablo Immortal does not have a release date. The NetEase mobile exclusive Diablo Immortal that was announced instead was a surprise on all fronts, a Blizzard game targeting non-typical Diablo fans. There were even rumors regarding Blizzard working on a Diablo tabletop-esque game for PC.

Announcements of a brand-new, smartphone-only Diablo and a remastered WarCraft 3 headlined a news-filled BlizzCon keynote presentation on Friday.
