Two-Day Shipping on 100 Million Items: Free Two-Day Shipping is available to all Prime members in the US on more than 100 million items with no minimum purchase amount all year.

As always, Amazon will offer a mix of all-day discounts and "Lightning Deals", which are only available for a limited amount of time - or until the product sells out.

Amazon is following Target and temporarily dropping the minimum amount shoppers need to spend to qualify for free shipping.

Amazon's promotion begins on Monday and is expected to cover hundreds of millions of items on the site. Target dropped its $35 minimum for free two-day shipping during the holidays.

Bottom line: Buy one of over 100 million items you want on Amazon and get free shipping without having to spend $25 now up until Christmas.

Amazon isn't the only merchant slashing shipping fees. That would be more than 12 percent of the $71.8 billion in sales that analysts now expect the company to report for the quarter. Retail sales this holiday season are expected to rise by as much as 4.8 percent in 2018, according to the National Retail Federation, as the USA economy continues to strengthen.

Amazon didn't say when customers using the free standard shipping tier would have to place orders to guarantee delivery by Christmas. The company usually sets the final date toward the end of the season.

Consumers have long heralded Amazon for its free two-day shipping for Prime accounts on eligible items, prompting other big-box retailers such as Target and Walmart to offer free expedited shipping during the holiday season as well.

Prime members in the United States do get a holiday perk, however. If Amazon's shipping costs keep rising at a similar pace, they could easily top $9 billion in the current quarter.
